1961 Roger Maris George Sosnak Art Baseball. Spectacular detail and simplistic charm characterize the highly collectible work of former umpire turned artist George Sosnak, who turns his attention here toward the fabled 1961 home run chase. Sosnak coats the sphere with microscopic handwriting listing the date, opponent and pitcher for all sixty-one of Maris’ long balls, and portraits of Roger and final home run victim Tracy Stallard. One can’t help but be impressed by the utterly unique result by the incomparable Sosnak. The ball was originally gifted to a member of the Yankees organization in 1963 and is signed and inscribed by Sosnak: “To John Johnson Farm Director New York Yankees World Champions Best Wishes “Geo” 1963.”
